Privacy: what we keep, and why.
Vinny answers phones for businesses. So two kinds of people end up in our records: the businesses we work for, and the people who call them. This page says what we keep about each.
If you call a business that uses us, or our demo number
- Who answers. Vinny, an AI, answers the call for that business. If you sincerely ask, it tells you it’s an AI.
- What we keep. A written transcript of the call, the number you called from, the line you called, and when the call started and ended, plus the order or message you left, as taken from the transcript.
- Audio. We also keep a recording of the call when the law of your state lets a call be recorded with one side’s consent. Otherwise we keep the transcript only. If you ask on the call whether it’s recorded, it tells you.
- Where it’s kept. On our own computers, and, for the business you called, in a private store at Vercel, the company that hosts this site. We encrypt it before it goes there. The business can read and hear its own calls on its page.
- How long. We keep calls and recordings so the business can hear them and so Vinny keeps getting better. Email us and we’ll delete yours.
- If you order. What you say on the call to place the order (your name, what you want, when you’ll pick it up) goes to that business so it can make your order, entered in the system the business takes orders in. That system’s own terms cover what it keeps. We keep a copy with the call’s record.
- If you ask for a person. Vinny rings a number the business gave us and connects you, and whoever answers can see the number you called from. The same happens when the business has used up its minutes for the month.
- What it’s for. To answer your call, pass your order or message on, check, fix and improve how Vinny works, and send you your own test number if you ask for one. We don’t use it for anything else. The companies below handle it under their own terms.
- If you ask for your own test number. If you ask for your own test number on the call, we also keep your email and use it and the number you called from to tell you about it and send you the number, by text and email. Resend delivers the email. Reply STOP to a text, or tell us, and we’ll stop.
- Who sees it. The business you called, us, and the companies below that help carry the call. A business can read the transcripts of calls to its own line, and hear the recordings.
- On our demo number there’s no business behind the call. It’s ours alone, and nothing you order gets made.
If your business works with us
- What we keep. What we find on your public pages or you give us to set up your line (your menu, hours and prices, and what you take orders on), the names and contact details of the people we deal with, and what we’ve agreed with you.
- Your calls. The transcripts and recordings of calls to your line are yours. Ask and we’ll send them. We use them to run your line and to improve Vinny.
- Your minutes. We count the minutes of calls to your line, so we can tell you when you’re getting close and send your calls to you when they run out.
- Your system’s login. To connect the system you take orders on, we ask for a login through a secure link. It’s encrypted in your browser before it’s sent. We keep it while you use Vinny, and we use it only to connect your system and enter the orders your phone takes: we log in, see how it works and put them in. While we’re logged in we can see what that login can see, like your menu, your orders and your customers’ details, and we don’t use them for anything else. You can change it any time, though orders can’t go in until we have the new one. We delete it when you stop.
- Email and texts. We text and email you about your test number, your minutes, upgrades and payments. Your account manager stays in touch by email, and we keep what you both write the way we keep any email. Message frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.
- Your calls, on your page. You can read and hear them on your own page, from the browser you signed up in or with a one-time link we email you. A copy for that page sits in a private store at Vercel, encrypted before it leaves us, under a key for your account. Our site holds the key it needs to show them to you.
- How long. We keep your calls and recordings so you can hear them and so Vinny keeps getting better. Email us and we’ll delete yours.
If you sign up on this site
- What we ask. Your business’s name, website or Google Maps link, your email and your mobile. If you send us a menu or a number that reaches a person, we keep those too.
- What it’s for. To find your business’s public pages, set up your test number and your line, and reach you about them, by text, email or phone. We don’t use it for anything else.
- Where it goes. What you type on the form, what we find, your answers, any menu you send and what you tell Vinny in the chat are kept with your account, in that same private store, encrypted before it’s stored. It doesn’t go in the site’s logs. If that store can’t take it, the form comes to us as one email through Resend.
- Stopping floods. The site counts sends from each IP address for an hour. It holds a scrambled form of the address, in memory only, and writes it nowhere.
If you pay us
- Your card. You type it into Stripe’s form on our go-live page, and it goes to Stripe. We never see or keep the number.
- What Stripe holds. The email you give for your receipt, your business’s name, and what you’ve paid. Stripe’s own terms and privacy notice cover what it keeps.
- What we keep. A notice of each payment, with that email and your business, and the receipt we send you. Both are emails, sent through Resend, and we keep them the way we keep any email.
If you only browse this site
This site sets one cookie, only if you have an account, to keep you signed in to your page. It has no ad pixels, analytics scripts or third-party trackers, with one exception: pressing Continue on a go-live page or on your own page loads Stripe’s script to take your card. Stripe’s script can set its own cookies and looks at your device and how you use the page, to stop fraud. Stripe’s privacy notice covers that. Fonts are served from our own domain. Like any web host, ours, Vercel, receives the request your browser sends, including your IP address, to deliver pages and keep the site secure.
If you email us
We keep your address and what you write so we can answer you and keep a record of what we’ve said.
Companies that handle data for us
Twilio carries the call and our texts, Deepgram turns speech into text, Anthropic’s Claude writes the replies and helps us set up your line, connect your system and answer your email, and reads what you tell Vinny in the chat and your calls’ details to make the change you asked for, and Google’s Gemini speaks the replies. Vercel hosts this site and keeps that encrypted copy, Google handles our email, Resend delivers the sign-up form, our receipts, your sign-in links and our other emails, and Stripe takes payments.
We don’t sell your information.
Your choices
Write to hello@hirevinny.com to ask what we hold about you, or to have it corrected or deleted. If you called a business that uses us, we’ll pass your request to that business and act on what it tells us. For our demo number, we decide.
